Residents of the Town of Mendon have been looking for transparency, support of local businesses, unity, support of our local volunteers, accountability, and trust in their local government. The Mendon Democratic Committee is proud to endorse Joe Alati for Town Supervisor, and Tanner Cheek for Town Board for the upcoming election in November.
Joe Alati has been a resident of Mendon for 27 years. Joe loves living in Mendon and cares deeply about its future. “That’s why I’m running for Town Supervisor- to preserve what makes our town great while moving us forward with thoughtful, balanced progress.” Joe has been involved in our community for many years as a proud parent of two HF-L graduates, a coach for youth sports, HF-L School Board member, and HF-L Program Budget Advisory Council on the School Board and represented HF-L School District on the Monroe County School Board Association Legislative Committee. This helped provide valuable insight into local and state government and helped Joe build relationships with key legislators on both sides of the aisle.
Joe’s platform emphasizes preserving Mendon’s unique character, supporting small business for local economic vitality, policies that benefit both children and seniors, and promoting civil engagement and transparent government. “As a former Business Owner, Teacher, and Co- President of BOCES United Professionals I’ve advocated for equity, fair budgeting, and meaningful policy changes- always with the community I am representing’s best interest in mind.”
Tanner Cheek believes that Mendon is a rare and special place. His wife and two children made this town their home, embracing its trails, its parks, and the close-knit community that thrives here. “My decision to run for Mendon Town Board comes from deeply held beliefs shaped by experience, and a desire to serve again in a new way.”
After the 9/11 attacks Tanner chose to join the U.S. Army. He served multiple combat tours and served with the 2/503d Reconnaissance Team. He learned that his commitment to service does not end with his time in the Army. He remains active in veteran organizations and supports service members and families of those who have fallen.
Tanner understands there are challenges in our community that we must “face head on”. These include supporting our local volunteer fire, EMS, and first responders, promoting economic opportunities and revitalization, education and youth development, and transparency and trust in our local government. As a board member he will bring to the role a voice of unity, thoughtful measured growth, champion our services and safety, invest in our youth, and facilitate transparent governance and accountability.
“Mendon has given my family a safe, nurturing, and vibrant place to grow. I want to give back by helping to lead it with care, heart, and principle. We owe it to our children and to the next generation to get this right.”
